At every turn, Chickadee Prints is aware of the impact our stationery industry has on the health of our planet. That’s why we keep a ”green” attitude as we consider inks, paper stock, power usage, waste management, and more.

Chickadee Prints has a printing partner who is triple chain certified, where our customers are able to become active members of being green. This alliance will plant trees when your card is printed on our FSC certified stocks. These standards ensure that we are not using papers derived from old-growth forest or from trees that, if harvested, would harm wildlife.  The paper we chose for our company, is an acid free paper, and produced with Green-e certified renewable wind-generated electricity.

Chickadee Prints took a step back from the "recycled content" paper industry for a few reasons...

1.  Many claiming a certain % of recycled content are not actually printing on that...recycled paper is expensive, the higher the %, the more costly.  Take a look at what you are paying for, does the price match up to the %?  Some things are too good to be true.  Anyone can claim 30%, 50%, or even 100% recycled paper, however, there is nothing verifying that when you purchase it.

2.  To make recycled content paper, you are using old fibers...meaning they are no longer pure white when going through the process.  In order to have pure white recycled paper, a chemical process and large amounts of water need to be used.  Think about this impact on the Earth.  While some paper mills are beginning the discovery of non-toxic chemical processing for pure white recycled paper, it has not been perfected.

We decided to stay responsible and honest, and for now, leave the chemical bleaching process behind, and turn to Triple Chain Certified printing presses and paper.  We are still being environmentally conscious and providing a great paper option.

Triple Chain Certification in:

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC - forest product chain-of-custody certification)

Sustainable Forest Initiative Certification (SFI)

Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC)

“When you use or print on paper that’s FSC certified, you’re choosing the best in environmental and social standards."  More specifically, the FSC logo means that the paper comes from well-managed forests and known sources. Local communities benefit and sensitive areas are protected. As the Forest Stewardship Council says: “It’s a real commitment, on paper. And it’s guaranteed.”
